Mike Liebelson here. Whether you know me from my recent razor-thin mayoral race or my current City Council campaign, you know my focus has always been a Resident-First approach to our city's future. That shared commitment is exactly why we established the Boca Citizens Alliance — a grassroots nonprofit built by and for the people who want a real say in the direction of our hometown. We have important work ahead to ensure our community has a strong, unified voice at City Hall, and our ultimate mission is simple: to work together to Keep Boca, Boca™.
Right now, there are several pressing issues before our city that demand our immediate attention and oversight:
Securing the Save Boca Charter Amendment. While we have made progress, the battle to protect our downtown public land is not over. The Save Boca charter amendment—which guarantees residents a public vote before the sale or lease of public land—has not yet been memorialized. It is heading to a March 2027 ballot, and we need a unified voice to ensure it officially passes.
Keeping Our Tax Dollars in Boca. Through property tax payments to the County, Boca Raton residents currently subsidize other areas of Palm Beach County to the tune of $85 million per year for services we do not receive. That costs local households anywhere from $1,000–$7,000 annually. We must negotiate hard with the County to recapture our tax dollars and ensure they are put to work right here at home.
Navigating Amendment 3 Responsibly. You may be hearing noise about the potential passage of Amendment 3, which reduces property taxes for homesteaded properties. Please do not be alarmed. The projected revenue reduction represents 5% or less of the city budget. This is highly manageable; we can easily offset this loss by smartly managing cuts in the city budget rather than passing a burden onto residents.
Police Station Plan, Location & Bond Issue. We are keeping a very close eye on the revised plans for the new police station and the associated bond issue to demand strict fiscal oversight. A critical part of this debate is the location: will it be moved from downtown to a central location, stay in downtown, or will the city pursue a hybrid approach with two stations handling different functions?
Resident-First Planning. With 47 development projects currently in the pipeline, we need a comprehensive, citywide master plan that mitigates traffic gridlock, addresses housing affordability for our first responders and families, and empowers our professional city management team.
